Prelude to a True Story by Colin

    Dear Friends,
By now you will all have heard of the Riots incited by a drastic increase in taxation, especially on petroleum products. Gasoline is now up around J$100 per gallon - I believe the increase worked out to about $4 - $5 more per litre. The Riots have kept the city shut down for two days now, and our prime minister, P.J. Patterson has just finished making an untimely, ineffective and seemingly uncaring response to the action.
Friends, the people of Jamaica are fed up, They are tired of struggling to make ends meet, while politicians grow rich off of scandal after foul-up after kickback after cost overrun, which they, the poor, then have to pay for . The government has bailed out all the rich fuck-ups and put the burden on the poorand defended themselves with all kinds of political rhetoric. Several quotations come to mind at this time:

"... the greatest transfer of resources from the poor to the rich since the abolition of slavery..."
     The Minister Deacon Ronnie Thwaites

"...every day the bucket go a well, one day the bottom a go drop out..."
The Rt. Hon. Robert Nesta Marley O.D.

"...we tired of the fuckery, and we fed up from 'bout '95..."
     Bounty Killa

"Your System to our pocket is a razor, so our money can trickle through to you later..."
     Miguel "Sizzla Kalongi" Collins

The riots will continue into tomorrow. The reserves have been called out. There are strong rumors of water and power cuts. If you have a few more minutes, I'll burden you with an adventure Bruce and I had today on the road:
